RATHMINES MEMORIAL BOWLING CLUB - Lunchtime Run - Nov 2011

What a beautiful day. Sun was shining, birds were singing, Brian was up early, the greenkeeper was at the club earlier to get the greens ready for the Semi Finals of the Club Mixed Fours Championship. The Car owners were up early to polish up their pride and joys. All's well in the world.

Cars meeting at Macca's Morisset and BP Berro finally headed off on a half hour drive to Rathmines Memorial Bowling Club, "Club Catalina", which in its former glory was the Officers Mess when the now Rathmines Park was the largest Air Force Seaplane base in the Southern Hemisphere during the WWII.

The club Tour Manager "Bill Macarther", met our members in the car park and after showing them how to get in to the club , proceeded to give all a wonderful talk on the base and it's interesting history.

Missing in action, was Brian and Illy who were out on the green playing in their semi final of the club mixed fours championship. While Bill talked on, Brian & Illy bowled on and ended up winning their Semi on the last bow of the last end by one shot. Whoo Hoo!!!! Bring on the Grand Final next.

The assembled, then ordered lunch from the Catalina Bistro and when we finally came in and joined everybody, all we could see was smiles and full bellies! Lots of laughter and talking and it would seem that all were perfectly satisfied with the day. Next, I offered the opportunity for anyone to come out onto the green for some barefoot bowls. Alas, everybody seemed to be sitting back, patting their tummies and looking at the output from the airconditioners. Only Craig and Judy Strong and their youngest,     , braved the heat and went out for a fun roll up. Good on you , guys.

After all that the troops decided to up stakes and head off around 2.00 pm after what am told was a really good run.

Manning Valley Cruisers – Mountains to the Sea Run  - August 2011

Well, this one has come and gone. A great roll up of Hot Rods and classic vehicles were on hand to be seen and been driven. The Manning Valley guys once again surpassed themselves in accommodating all who showed up. There were plenty of full weekend cars and a lot of Saturday participants. Illy and I and George and Queeni drove up on Saturday morning to join the guys at the Lakeside Tavern in Forster fo the Show & Shine. What a great turn up of cars. We met up with Brian Fox, Graham Gillia and Rob & Janis, all usual participants for this great event. The show finished at 2.00pm so they could all go home and get changed for their costume party night. A wonderful photo of 2 members, (Unknown at this point) is shown, along with a member who's claim to fame is excellent deciphering of petrol gauges. I have to say, after a hot sunny day on Friday and another on Sunday, it was a bit of a downer that it drizzled all day Saturday. Still not to be put off, there was a great turn out for the show.

Lunch Cruise to Bulga August 2011

The August club run was to the Cockfighter Creek Tavern at Bulga. 22 members attended the run. Unfortunately only seven club participated in the cruise; the other members drove their daily drivers, this was due to the usual ailments these old cars and drivers suffer ( windscreen replacement, accident damage, water pump troubles, hernia, restoration repairs etc). The run commenced at 10 am from the BP at Beresfield and progressed up the New England Highway to the Tavern at Bulga. Here all had lunch, a few drinks and caught up on the latest gossip. By 3 pm every one started to head home.    GG

We all gathered at the Big Pumper at Beresfield some 22 people and 7 or 8 club cars, had our coffee and headed off via the New England Highway for Bulga around 1030 hrs. We left the Chevy at home and drove the Statey due to being easier to drive after the op . Arrived at the Tavern just over the bridge at Bulga around 1130 hrs everyone parked up and made their way to the Tavern and settled in. We were lucky with the weather sunshine most of the time. People ordered their lunches, we ordered roast beef (small serving) I can't think what a large serve would be like as the small was large and for $10 it was good value and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Around 1500 hrs people started to head of home we had afternoon tea at Simply Divine at Nulkaba then headed home. A good day had by all, looking forward to the next run. Baz

Thornton Garage Run 15th August 2010

Most people (especially car people) have a small collection of bits and pieces to do with aspects of their hobby. On this run we met a man whose collection of memorabilia exceeds everyone’s imagination of what a collection should be.The run started off with meeting/breakfast at Hungary Jacks at Beresfield. There was a good roll up of cars consisting of Alan & Lynne’s ‘68 Impala, Jeff & Janet’s ‘60 Belair, Rob & Janice ‘36 Ford, Buck & Carol’s ‘66 Mustang, Rob & Selina’s ’78 Corvette, John’s Galaxy, Wayne & Noelene’s Dodge Rat rod, Peter’s ’56 Chev, Brian’s T-Bird, Graham’s ’76 Firebird plus potential new members Jim & Julie with their 34 Ford pickup.

At 9:30 a.m. we left Beresfield and proceeded to Thornton, where we were greeted by the owner, who gave us a brief introduction and outline of his collection, then we were free to browse about at our leisure, morning tea was also provided by the owners. The collection is housed in a large barn and spreads into the surrounding grounds. Inside are anything and everything to do with the automotive industry; petrol pumps, oil & grease tins, car manuals, tools and jacks of all description, vintage trucks, and several Austin cars basically anything to do with old cars. His passion for collecting extends to old radios, cameras, railway memorabilia; you name it I think you could find it here.

About midday the club proceeded to Morpeth where we had lunch. Arriving at the park we found that the Newcastle Vintage Motorcycle Club had the same idea for the park. Bikes from the 20’s and 30’s were on display. There was a great deal of mingling and chatting together by members of both clubs.  Another potential member with a Dodge Custom Royal turned up at the park. Lunch was informal and a lot of chatting took place. About 1:15 p.m. the weather turned ugly so it was decided to end the lunch early.

A special thanks goes to Bob Glendenning for organising this run.   GG

P.S. One item that was brought up during lunch was that one of our lady members would like to swap her husband for a roadster hot rod, if anyone is interested please contact Janet.

Tilligerry Motorama May 2010

A good day and a good turn out of cars, over 200 vehicles of all makes, even a couple of Bikes and Boats.
There were helicopter rides going all day long, some market stalls selling odds and ends, sponsor stalls, food, coffee, wine tasting, rides for the kids as well as the RSL Club facilities.
The Rattlesnakes did a great job entertaining a fair size crowd, no dance floor though so no one dancing but a lot of toe tapping going on.
The presentations came on and trophies announced to the winners around 1.30pm as the skies started to look a bit threatening.
The venue is able to handle at least double the amount of vehicles if it continues to grow in coming years.
Apart from myself with the Chevelle I ran into Bob and Kate Glendenning (67 Mustang), Peter Ryan (56 Chev) and saw George and Queeny Borg but didn't see their car anywhere.
If I missed noting any other  C.C members who were there I apologise .
P.S. I spied this really nice Chevelle hiding amongst the Holden's showing them what a real Muscle car should look like, Ha Ha.
