LIVESITES - NEWCASTLE FORESHORE - 18th October 2008

                            Click on for Movie

"On The Prowl" were pumping out the 50s & 60s tunes from 5pm to 8pm keeping a great crowd entertained. Not only all those who showed up to hear the rock and show their cars, but all those patrons of all the bars along that part of the foreshore as well.

Our club was fairly well represented alongside a good showing of HotRods, GT Falcons, Holdens and some classics from some other clubs. There were lots of dancers out on the floor from a variety of local dance clubs from Morisset to Raymond Terrace.

We also picked up 2 new members on the night and we look forward to seeing a new Comaro and 57 Chev in the club.

SCONE  RUN  MAY  2007

What a great day, starting off at Beresfield, three vehicles travelled to Singleton before meeting up with seven more, then continuing on to Muswellbrook where we met up with another two and then on to Scone. Peter Ollerton and John Benson had an area for us to park and have a chat before the parade started. It was decided this year that the local dignitaries would travel in a procession of Holden Utilities and our club would follow to allow the spectators to acknowledge each on there own.

After the parade we met up at the Wingen Hotel where we all enjoyed lunch and a chat before visiting the local Antique and Collectables establishment. A good selection of vehicles attended which included Peter and Jill Ollerton in their ’84 Camaro, John Benson in his ’61 Thunderbird, Tim and Lee Fraser in their ’79 Trans Am, Allan and Judy Creagh in their ’66 Mustang, Morgan Greagh and partner in their ’69 Mustang, Michael Paice and partner in their ’53 Ford pickup, Bob and Joy Brown in their ’57 Customline, Jim and Chris Sundstrom in their Trams Am, Greg Nott in his ’67 Mustang, Daryl Fox with his son Max And Daughter Matilda in their ’55 Chev , Brian Fox in his ‘78 Trans Am and Kate and myself in our ’67 Mustang also a past member Keith and Vicki Waugh in their ’69 Pontiac GTO (back on the road after years of restoration, and what a great job he did with it) and their friend Darryl Smith in his ’74 Camaro. I am sure everyone that attended had an enjoyable day and those of you that couldn’t make it then maybe next year as this is proving to be an event that should stay on our calendar for future years.

  Thanks,  Bob Glendenning

On 23rd April some club members went to a round of the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Dragracing Series at West Sydney International Dragway. Stephanie and Daryl Fox and family met up with Jeff and Janet Holmesby at the twin servos and drove casually down to the dragway. As we were in cars of the era we were able to park in the show area next to the pits which made things easier , after about an hour we were able to get Jeff to see some racing. There was a lot of interesting cars to see. There was a bunch of real quick cars on the day in hot rod, American muscle, Aussie muscle, FED's and pro classes. After an hour or so Jeff had to take the jackets back to the car or something saying he would just be a minute, about an hour later Jeff returned full of enthusiasm. We met up with Greg Harris and Mick Pace(Jim Beam pickup) as well down there. Some of the more interesting racing was the cars pulling huge wheelstands including one  XY Falcon scraping his rear bumper and chute. A really good day had by all and I heard Jeff and Janet may be going to the finals at Willowbank. He is keen. Next Sydney round is Dec.3rd.

Kurri  Kurri Nostalgia  Festival &Cruise  2007

Well, congratulations to all who made a contribution. Either big or small, they all helped make another hugely successful event.  I think we should all form a big circle and pat each other on the back and say well done.  Those attending would notice the event has stepped up in terms of more and better entertainment, better services, better advertising, and in general better value for our entrants.

The committee meetings this year saw a marked increase in numbers with 20 people attending many meetings, most heartening.  The number of volunteers coming forward from the wider community was unbelievable. Most of this can be attributed to Wendy Franklin who’s time and effort put in was far and above what she gets paid for. We now have a great team, who are truly dedicated to see this event as the number one event of it’s type, behind only Wintersun.

Wendy has been able to source funding from both Council and the State Government for the next couple of years. Local business’s also lifted their support & sponsorship this year.

This influx of dollars enabled us to have 97 ads on NBN. as well as radio ads on 2NURFM and  96.5  This, as you saw, drew the biggest crowd we have ever had.  Unfortunately the unkind weather on Saturday night & Sunday saw the car entry down to 200 on the day. A great roll up, given the lousy weather. The Street Rod

Nationals over Easter in Goulburn would also be a contributing factor, with owners reluctant to get their cars seriously dirty so close to such a big event.

All our entertainment was top class and thoroughly enjoyed by all. We had very positive feed back on all venues. I went to the Dinner/Dance on the Sat, night and enjoyed the meal ,which was served on time and all cleaned away well before 8 p.m. there was enough food left over to feed another 20 people . We were then treated to a couple of songs from our very popular and talented “Peggy Sue 2007”, Terri Smith. It was then over to Johnny V & The Heroes from Heaven who kept everyone singin’ and boppin’ right through till 12. We did get a couple of encores and I think we all could have enjoyed the whole show again. The dance floor was full all night, led by John Waring who I think must  have danced with just about every lady in the hall (lucky bugger).

Bob Glendenning’s seating plan worked to perfection. A very special thank-you to the volunteer team led by Janet, Stephanie, Matilda, Jeanette, Chris & Jim, who stepped in to decorate the Dinner / Dance venue. This effort was all the more meritorious given that most of them were going to the other venue, which was from all reports a resounding success.

Top 10 judging and trophy manufacture was successfully completed with 40 minutes to spare. Another great team effort, thanks to Mark, Alan, Buck, Peter, & “Peggy Sue”, plus of course the 10 judges who had their choices back to us nice and early with a good cross section of cars.

I promise to have our D.V.D. completed as soon as possible. Special thanks for another wonderfull team of volunteer camera crew led by Mansell, Brian, Alan, Buck, Ron Bessoff,  “Peggy Sue 2007” & the Mayor John Clarence.

All in all a very satisfying result. For me personally, a great sense of camaraderie generated through working ,and sharing the resultant success with a great group of people. I hope to catch up with you all at a run soon, Till then

Rathmines Park Annual Picnic Day  11th November  2007

Well another Rathies Park event has come and gone. What a great day it was too. The weather was absolutely picture perfect to match the condition of our park.

We held some of the usual events , The “Blindfolded Forward and Reverse Parking” and the “Rolling Pin throw”. We included 2 new events this year and they were “The Putting Course” and the Inaugural  “Rathmines Park V8 Super Car Name Race.”

Lots of fun in all events and thanks to Illy for running the Putting and Rollin Pin events and to Patrick for Helping with the Driving Event. The Rathmines Park V8 Super Car Name Race, was called by me myself and ably assisted by Illy, was run over 6 heats with a 6 car final.  After all the dust had settled the final was won by that daring skillful driver in a Buick, Alan Ballard. What a great 2 laps he put in.

George won the putting event and Me Myself won the mens and Karen won the womens Rolling Pin Throw.

Peter Thorpe was very skillfull in being told what to do and therefore won the the “Blindfolded Forward and Reverse Parking”. I wonder does he get a lot of practice at home ? I will have to ask the boss.

                                           Brian.
